Key takeaways

  • A Shopify AI agent takes actions in your store - edits theme code, issues refunds, drafts purchase orders, launches campaigns. If it only answers questions or generates copy, it’s a chatbot or an assist feature wearing an agent costume.
  • Most “AI agent” lists are written by vendors who rank themselves first. We checked every claim against live Shopify App Store listings and docs - and cut several apps those lists recommend.
  • The honest shortlist by job: Fudge (building and editing the storefront), Sidekick + Flow (running the admin, free), Gorgias or Richpanel (support), Zipchat or Rep AI (on-site sales), Klaviyo (marketing), Prediko or Fabrikatör (inventory).
  • Check review counts before you trust a recommendation. Some apps cited in AI-generated answers have fewer than 20 reviews.

Searches for a Shopify AI agent used to return chatbots. In 2026 the term finally means something: software connected to your store’s data that plans and executes multi-step work - not just answers questions about it.

This guide ranks the best Shopify AI agents by the job you’d hire them for: building your store, running the admin, handling support, running marketing, and managing inventory. One tool per job beats one tool claiming every job.

Why you can trust us

We’ve been in the Shopify ecosystem for over four years and have worked with hundreds of Shopify brands. We build Fudge - an AI agent that builds and edits Shopify stores, rated 4.8 on the App Store with a Built for Shopify badge. We’re biased in one category and we say so when we get there.

Everything else is ranked from research, not partnerships: every rating, review count, and price below was read from the live App Store listing or vendor documentation, not from other listicles. We also surveyed our own customers about the AI tools they run alongside Fudge - 147 merchants responded, and their answers informed which categories and tools made this list.

What counts as an agent (and what doesn’t)

Our bar for this list:

  1. It acts, not just answers. Processing a refund, drafting a PO, editing a page, launching a flow - real writes to your store, with guardrails.
  2. It’s connected to live store data - orders, catalog, customers, theme - not a generic chatbot with your FAQ pasted in.
  3. It has verifiable traction. Live App Store rating and a meaningful review base, or first-party status. Apps with single-digit review counts don’t get a recommendation, however good the demo looks.

If a tool only generates text or recommendations for a human to act on, it’s AI-assisted software. Useful - but not an agent, and not ranked here as one.

*Fin is sold direct rather than through the App Store, which is why its listing review count is low.

A note on those review counts: free channel apps rack up thousands of reviews; paid back-office agents serving established brands top out in the low hundreds - the most-reviewed AI inventory app on the entire App Store has 342. Compare within a category, not across.

AI agents for building and editing your Shopify store

This is the category we compete in, so judge our take accordingly - but it’s also the category where the “agent vs assist” line matters most.

Fudge - the agentic pick

Fudge builds landing pages, product pages, sections, quizzes and store-wide edits from a prompt - and it does it by writing native theme code (Liquid, CSS, JS) that you own. There’s no app rendering layer between your store and your visitors, and nothing breaks or disappears if you uninstall. Changes land in a safe draft mode before you publish, and you refine them the same way you created them: by prompting.

That’s the structural difference from every drag-and-drop builder’s AI feature. Rated 4.8 on the App Store, free plan available, paid plans from $79/mo. Where it doesn’t fit: if you want to hand-place every pixel in a visual editor, a traditional builder is still the better tool.

Shopify’s native AI

Sidekick got dramatically more agentic in the Winter ‘26 Edition: it executes multi-step admin tasks, builds Flow automations from plain English, creates customer segments, edits themes, and can even generate small custom apps. Shopify Magic now generates whole starter themes from a description. Both are free with your plan, and both are the right starting point - but storefront building remains broad-and-shallow: theme blocks and starting points rather than controlled, iterative page construction. We covered the full picture in The State of Shopify AI in 2026.

What about the page builders’ AI?

PageFly (4.9, 5,662 reviews), GemPages (4.9, 3,981) and Instant (4.9, 310) have all shipped real AI features - prompt-to-page, GemPages’ image-to-layout, PageFly’s page audits. These are genuinely useful, but they’re credit-metered generation bolted onto a drag-and-drop editor, and the output renders through each app’s own layer, which means ongoing runtime dependency and lock-in on uninstall. AI-assisted builders, not agents. Full comparison in best AI page builders for Shopify.

If you have a developer, there’s a third path: Shopify’s free Dev MCP server lets coding agents like Claude Code write validated theme and app code directly - we wrote up the workflow in the Shopify AI Toolkit guide.

Running the admin: Sidekick and Flow

Sidekick + Shopify Flow is the free baseline every store should set up before paying for anything. Flow executes trigger-condition-action automations natively (tag high-value customers, hold suspicious orders, restock alerts), and Sidekick now builds those Flows from a plain-English description. It won’t forecast demand or run your support queue - but it’s zero cost and zero integration risk, and it defines the bar a paid agent has to clear.

AI agents for customer support

The most mature agent category - and the one with the most misleading marketing. The question that separates agents from chatbots: can it process a refund, cancel an order, or change a shipping address by itself, within limits you set?

Gorgias AI Agent - deepest Shopify integration

Gorgias reads live order, customer and catalog data and executes refunds, address updates and subscription edits natively. It’s the category’s ecosystem leader (15,000+ brands). Two honest caveats: its App Store rating (4.2 across 617 reviews) is the lowest of the top tier, largely over billing complaints - AI resolutions are billed (~$0.90–1.00 each) and consume plan ticket allowances, so effective cost per resolution runs higher than the sticker price. Plans from $10/mo.

Richpanel - the value pick nobody’s listicle mentions

Richpanel (4.7, 122 reviews) does the same category of real actions - refunds with merchant-set limits, cancellations, subscription changes - at $0.20 per AI conversation, roughly a quarter of what Gorgias and Fin charge per resolution. Plans from $89/mo. Smaller ecosystem, less enterprise track record, strong economics for small-to-mid stores.

Fin by Intercom - strongest resolution engine

Fin claims a ~76% average resolution rate across 8,000+ customers at $0.99 per resolution, and can run on top of your existing helpdesk. One thing worth correcting: several competitor listicles claim Fin can’t process refunds - that’s outdated. Fin’s Procedures with the Shopify connector verify orders, cancel, and refund end-to-end. It’s less ecommerce-native out of the box than Gorgias, so budget setup time for the Shopify workflows.

Also worth knowing: Siena AI has the best brand-voice quality in the category but starts at ~$750/mo from a small vendor - a real commitment. And Tidio’s Lyro (4.8, 1,251 reviews, from $39/mo) is excellent value but is a chatbot, not an action-taking agent - we compared that category in best Shopify chatbot apps.

AI agents for on-site sales

A different job from support, and one most “AI agent” roundups miss entirely: proactively engaging the shopper who’s hesitating on a product page, recommending, and walking them to checkout. Shopify now maintains an official App Store collection for AI shopping assistants - the category is real.

Zipchat (4.8, 151 reviews) leads with conversion focus - it publishes a 16.3% chat-to-conversion rate and does conversational upselling, not just Q&A. Rep AI (4.7, 92 reviews, from $104/mo) takes the proactive angle: behavioral AI spots a hesitating shopper, opens the conversation, recommends products and guides them to checkout.

These agents convert traffic you already have - but they can only work with the product page they’re standing on. Pair them with a PDP that answers the easy questions first.

AI marketing agents

The category is roughly 80% rebranding. Plenty of tools generate copy; very few autonomously decide and execute.

Klaviyo - the low-risk default

Klaviyo (4.7, 2,956 reviews) launched Composer in March 2026: an agent that generates, launches and continuously tunes full campaigns, flows and segments from one prompt, sharing a live customer profile with its service agent. It’s still in private beta and agent credits are metered on top of contact-based pricing - but if you’re already on Klaviyo, this is agentic marketing without switching stacks. Free plan available; email plans from $20/mo.

AdScale - the leading cross-channel ads agent

AdScale (4.7, 337 reviews) generates Meta and Google creatives, then runs 24/7 cross-channel bid and budget management on its own. From $169/mo with managed ad spend capped at $1k–3k/mo by tier - which makes it a tool for small stores without a media buyer, not for scaled accounts. Its nearest rivals by traction are narrower: Easy Ads (300 reviews, 4.2) is Meta-only, and AdRoll (287 reviews) is a retargeting network with AI bidding rather than an agent running your own accounts.

Scaled accounts have a different option: Triple Whale’s Moby agent now genuinely acts - autonomous actions in your ad accounts and creative building on its $749/mo Automate plan. Honest caveat: its App Store rating is 4.1 across 85 reviews (Triple Whale’s traction lives in direct sales, not app reviews), so treat it as an enterprise analytics-that-acts play, not a plug-and-play app. Enterprise brands where SMS is a top-3 channel should look at Attentive’s AI Journeys (custom contracts, not self-serve).

Buyer beware: the app literally named “AI Marketing Agent” on the App Store has 14 reviews and, despite the name, guides you through setup rather than acting autonomously. Names are free; verify the reviews.

AI agents for inventory and operations

Timely context: Shopify is sunsetting Stocky, its own inventory-planning app, at the end of August 2026 - first-party is exiting exactly the job these agents do, which tells you where the work is going.

Prediko - the most mature inventory agent

Prediko (4.9, 228 reviews) ships a named agent, Pia, that refreshes demand plans, drafts and updates purchase orders, and generates reports from chat - plus an MCP server so you can drive it from Claude or ChatGPT. POs stay human-approved drafts, which is the right guardrail, not a weakness. Revenue-tiered plans from $49/mo. Weak spot: it’s Shopify-first, so heavy multichannel sellers should look elsewhere.

Fabrikatör - best for stores that sell out

Fabrikatör (4.8, 105 reviews) auto-creates POs from SKU-level forecasts and - its real differentiator - automates backorders, so a stockout captures revenue instead of losing it. From $99/mo plus per-backorder fees; its fully autonomous “AI Head of Operations” mode is still early access. Larger ops teams that want scenario planning over autonomy can add Cogsy (from $199/mo) to the shortlist.

For completeness: the most-reviewed AI inventory app is Assisty (4.8, 342 reviews) - a cheaper, reporting-first tool. It’s good software, but it hands you numbers rather than drafting the purchase order, which is the line this article draws.

Emerging: SEO autopilot and AI repricing

Two adjacent jobs are partway to agentic. SEO apps with “autopilot” modes (Booster SEO, SEOPilot) auto-fix meta tags and alt text - real writes, but narrow rule-based ones. And AI repricers like Intelis (4.9, 66 reviews) and Prisync (5.0, 192 reviews) adjust prices autonomously from competitor tracking. Both categories are worth watching; neither has a breakout agent yet.

The other direction: AI agents shopping from your store

Everything above is agents working for you. The bigger 2026 shift is agents shopping from you - ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot buying on customers’ behalf through Shopify’s agentic commerce stack. That’s a storefront-readiness problem, not an app choice, and we’ve covered it in depth: what agentic storefronts mean for Shopify brands and the complete guide to an agent-ready storefront.

How to pick a Shopify AI agent in 2026

Under ~$500K revenue: Sidekick + Flow (free), Fudge’s free plan for storefront work, and hold off on paid support AI until you pass ~100 tickets/month.

$500K–$5M: this is where agents pay for themselves. Fudge for the storefront, Richpanel or Gorgias for support, an on-site sales agent once you have real traffic to convert, Klaviyo for marketing, Prediko once purchasing decisions get expensive to get wrong.

$5M+: Gorgias or Fin for support at volume, Attentive if SMS is a core channel, Fabrikatör or Cogsy with a real ops team - and negotiate per-resolution pricing before you scale it, not after.

Whatever your size: adopt one agent per job, give it two weeks of supervised runtime before you widen its guardrails, and check the App Store review count before believing any list - including this one.

FAQ

What is a Shopify AI agent?

A Shopify AI agent is software connected to your store's live data that plans and executes multi-step tasks - editing theme code, processing refunds, drafting purchase orders, launching campaigns - rather than just answering questions or generating text for a human to act on.

Is Shopify Sidekick a real AI agent?

Increasingly, yes. As of the Winter '26 Edition, Sidekick executes multi-step admin tasks, builds Flow automations from plain English, creates segments, edits themes, and can generate small custom apps. Its storefront building is still shallow compared to dedicated tools, but it's free and the right baseline for every store.

What's the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot on Shopify?

A chatbot answers questions; an agent takes actions. The practical test for support tools: can it process a refund, cancel an order, or change a shipping address by itself, within limits you set? Tools like Gorgias AI Agent, Richpanel and Fin pass that test. Most 'AI chatbots' don't.

Can AI agents run a Shopify store on their own?

No, and the good ones don't claim to. Every credible agent keeps a human approval step on consequential actions - Prediko's purchase orders are drafts, support agents work within refund limits you set, and Fudge publishes changes only after you approve the draft. Treat full autonomy claims as a red flag.

How much do Shopify AI agents cost?

Native AI (Sidekick, Flow, Magic) is free with your plan. Storefront and inventory agents run roughly $49–99/mo entry. Support agents typically combine a platform fee with per-resolution pricing ($0.20–1.00 per AI-handled conversation), which is the number to model before committing - a successful rollout makes the bill grow.

Which AI agent should a small Shopify store start with?

Start free: Sidekick plus a couple of Flow automations, and Fudge's free plan for building pages. Add a paid support agent once you pass roughly 100 tickets a month, and an inventory agent once a bad purchasing decision costs more than $49/mo.
