Key takeaways

  • AfterSell is our top pick for a dedicated post-purchase upsell app: 4.8 stars across 900 reviews, purpose-built one-click offers, and the deepest thank-you page customisation of the group.
  • ReConvert is the best value, starting at $4.99/month with the largest review base of any app here (4.8 stars, 2,798 reviews).
  • Post-purchase offers are shown after payment is captured, so a declined offer can’t hurt the sale you already made - that’s why this upsell placement converts with near-zero risk.
  • Prefer apps built on Shopify’s native post-purchase checkout extension. Redirect-based funnels are a legacy pattern that breaks wallets and slows the order flow.
  • Watch the pricing model: several apps charge a share of upsell revenue, so the bill climbs exactly when the offers work.

Every rating and price below comes from the live Shopify App Store listing, checked in August 2026. If you’re reading this later, click through the footnotes - app pricing changes often.

The best Shopify post purchase upsell apps all do the same core trick: after the customer pays, and before the thank-you page loads, they show a one-click offer that charges the card already on file. No new checkout, no re-entering payment details, no risk to the original order. The differences are in pricing models, targeting, testing tools, and how much of the rest of the funnel each app tries to own.

We compared six real apps for this guide and ranked them below.

Our verdict in 30 seconds

  • Best overall: AfterSell - 4.8 stars, 900 reviews, from $34.99/month.
  • Best value: ReConvert - 4.8 stars, 2,798 reviews, from $4.99/month.
  • Best for offer testing: Zipify OCU - 4.5 stars, 502 reviews, from $8/month.
  • Best free start: CartHook - free up to 100 orders/month, but a 3.9-star rating you should read into.
  • Best pay-as-you-go: ReSell - 4.9 stars on a small review base, free plan at 5% of upsell revenue.
  • Best multi-placement funnels on a budget: Honeycomb - 4.6 stars, free plan with 100 funnel views.

Why you can trust us

We’ve worked in the Shopify space for over four years and have shipped storefront work for hundreds of brands. We also build Fudge, a native-code storefront editor with a 4.9 rating on the Shopify App Store - which means we sit inside merchant themes every day and see exactly how upsell widgets, checkout extensions, and thank-you page scripts behave next to real theme code. We don’t sell a post-purchase app, so we have no horse in this particular race.

What a post-purchase upsell actually is

Shopify exposes a specific extension point called the post-purchase checkout extension. It inserts one extra page into the order flow: after payment is authorised, before the thank-you page. An app renders an offer there - “add this for 20% off” - and if the customer taps accept, Shopify charges the payment method already captured for the original order. One click, no re-entered card details.

Two properties make this placement unusual:

  1. The sale is already closed. The customer has paid. If they ignore the offer, you lose nothing - the original conversion is untouched. Compare that to pre-purchase popups, which sit in front of the buy button and can cost you the sale they’re trying to grow.
  2. Acceptance friction is near zero. The single biggest killer of upsells is asking the customer to check out again. Here they don’t.

That combination is why post-purchase offers convert at rates that pre-purchase widgets rarely touch. Typical accept rates land in the low single digits to low teens depending on offer relevance, and because there’s no downside risk, even a mediocre funnel usually pays for the app.

The placement has real constraints too, and any honest guide should list them:

  • One offer page per order. Shopify allows a single post-purchase page (apps can chain an upsell and a downsell inside it, but you don’t get an endless funnel).
  • Not every payment method qualifies. Orders paid with certain wallets, instalment providers, and local payment methods skip the post-purchase page entirely. A chunk of your orders will never see the offer, and that’s a platform rule, not an app bug.
  • It’s checkout territory. The page renders inside Shopify’s checkout surface, so apps build it from Shopify’s UI components. Heavy customisation is limited by design. For how this extension model works and what else lives in it, see our guide to Shopify checkout extensibility.

How we evaluated these apps

Four criteria, in order of importance:

Native extension vs redirect. Modern apps render offers through Shopify’s post-purchase extension. The legacy pattern - redirecting the customer to an app-hosted funnel page after checkout - is slower, breaks trust cues, and conflicts with wallets. Everything ranked here uses the native extension for its one-click offers; older funnel platforms that never migrated didn’t make the list.

Speed footprint. The post-purchase page itself is rendered by Shopify, so it’s fast by construction. The speed question is everything else the app touches: thank-you page widgets, cart widgets, and storefront scripts. Apps that also inject pre-purchase surfaces add JavaScript to pages where speed maps directly to conversion.

AOV analytics. You need to see net lift, not gross clicks: upsell revenue minus refunds, and revenue net of the app’s own fee. The better apps report exactly this; the weaker ones report vanity numbers.

A/B testing of offers. The first offer you configure will not be your best one. Built-in split testing of products, discounts, and layouts is what separates a set-and-forget widget from a compounding revenue channel. Testing offers follows the same discipline as any other experiment - our Shopify CRO guide covers the method.

A note on method: this comparison is based on the live App Store listings, each app’s public documentation and pricing pages, and our experience seeing these tools running alongside client storefronts. We have not run a hands-on install-and-test of every app for this guide.

The 6 best Shopify post-purchase upsell apps

1. AfterSell - best overall for post-purchase upsells

AfterSell (now owned by Rokt) is the most complete dedicated post-purchase app on the store. As of August 2026 it holds 4.8 stars across 900 reviews, with pricing tiered by shop order volume: $34.99/month up to 500 orders, $54.99 to 1,000, $99.99 to 2,000, each with a 30-day free trial, plus a free plan for development stores.1

What earns it the top slot is depth in exactly this placement: one-click upsell and downsell chains, offer targeting by product, cart value, customer tag, language, and UTM, and the strongest thank-you page editor of the group (reviews, FAQs, cross-sells). Plus stores can extend into checkout order bumps. It also ships “Rokt Thanks,” a network that pays you per order for showing third-party brand offers on the thank-you page.

Downsides: it’s the priciest entry point here, and the tiers key off your total shop orders, not upsell performance - a 1,500-order store pays $99.99/month even if upsells are earning modestly. The Rokt network offers are also a taste question: showing another company’s ad on your thank-you page earns money but spends brand trust, and it’s on you to leave that switched off.

2. ReConvert - best value and biggest review base

ReConvert (listed as “Upsell.com - ReConvert Upsell”) is the volume leader: 4.8 stars across 2,798 reviews as of August 2026. Pricing starts at $4.99/month (up to 50 orders or $50 of upsell revenue), then $9.99 and $19.99 tiers, all with a 14-day trial and a free plan for development stores.2

It covers the full funnel - product page recommendations, cart offers, checkout blocks for Plus, one-click post-purchase funnels, and a drag-and-drop thank-you page editor - at prices well below anyone else on this list. For a small or mid-size store that wants post-purchase plus a bit of everything, it’s the sensible default.

Downsides: the caps are tight and double-keyed. Each tier limits both monthly orders and upsell revenue, so a growing store climbs tiers quickly, and the headline $4.99 is realistic only for very small shops. The breadth also means it installs surfaces across your storefront, which is more script weight than a post-purchase-only tool if all you wanted was the one placement.

3. Zipify OCU - best for funnel builders and A/B testing

One Click Upsell (Zipify OCU), from the team behind Zipify Pages, holds 4.5 stars across 502 reviews as of August 2026. Pricing starts at $8/month and scales with the upsell revenue the app generates, with a 30-day trial and a free plan for development stores.3

OCU’s pitch is every offer placement in one app - post-purchase, pre-purchase, cart drawer, product page, thank-you page, and checkout for Plus - with AI-picked offers and split testing built into the core workflow rather than bolted on. If you intend to actually iterate on offers instead of configuring once, this is the strongest testing loop of the six.

Downsides: revenue-scaled pricing means your bill grows in lockstep with success, and unlike a flat tier you can’t outgrow it; run the math against AfterSell’s flat pricing at your volume. The 4.5 rating is also the lowest of the well-established apps here, with a slice of reviews citing billing surprises from that same pricing model.

4. CartHook - best free plan for low-volume stores

CartHook was one of the original post-purchase funnel platforms, and its current app is rebuilt on Shopify’s native extension. As of August 2026 it sits at 3.9 stars across 78 reviews. Pricing: free up to 100 orders/month, then $10, $25, and $40 tiers up to 1,000 orders - and every plan, including free, takes a 1% share of upsell revenue, with a 3-day trial on paid tiers.4

The free plan is the draw: a genuinely functional one-click upsell setup with a drag-and-drop funnel builder, A/B testing, and BOGO and bundle offers, at zero fixed cost for a store doing under 100 orders a month.

Downsides: the rating. 3.9 stars is the weakest score on this list, and recent one-star reviews include a billing dispute left unresolved for months. The 1% revenue share also never goes away, even on paid tiers, and the 3-day trial is the shortest here. Try it because it’s free, but watch your first invoices closely.

5. ReSell - best pay-as-you-go pricing

Post Purchase Upsell - ReSell, by DevIT, is the small sharp tool of the group: 4.9 stars across 52 reviews as of August 2026. The free “Pay as you go” plan charges 5% of the extra revenue the app generates; flat plans run $14.99, $24.99, and $49.99/month (the top tier uncapped, with a yearly option), with per-order overage fees on the middle tiers.5

The pay-as-you-go plan is the purest deal structure in this niche: pay nothing unless the upsells work, with no order-volume gate. For a store that wants to test whether post-purchase offers convert at all before committing to a monthly fee, this is the cleanest experiment.

Downsides: 52 reviews is a thin evidence base next to ReConvert’s 2,798, and 5% is a steep cut if the offers take off - the moment upsell revenue passes roughly $300/month, the $14.99 flat plan is already cheaper. Feature depth (targeting, testing) is lighter than AfterSell or OCU.

6. Honeycomb - best if you want pre- and post-purchase in one

Honeycomb Upsell & Cross Sell, by Conversion Bear, holds 4.6 stars across 146 reviews as of August 2026. There’s a free plan capped at 100 monthly funnel views, then Silver at $54.99, Gold at $109.99, and Platinum at $169.99/month (2,000, 5,000, and 10,000 monthly views respectively, with branding removed), each with a 7-day trial.6

Its post-purchase offers are true one-click with order merging - accepted upsells fold into the original order rather than creating a second one, which keeps fulfilment tidy. The funnel model spans product page, cart, post-purchase, and thank-you page, with split testing and an AI recommendation engine.

Downsides: view-based pricing is the trap. You pay for funnel impressions, not orders or results, so a high-traffic store burns through views whether or not anyone accepts an offer - and $169.99/month for 10,000 views is the most expensive scaling curve on this list. The free tier’s 100 views evaporate in a day on any store with real traffic, and it keeps Honeycomb branding on your offers.

How to choose

  • Under ~100 orders/month: start free. CartHook’s free plan or ReSell’s pay-as-you-go lets you learn whether post-purchase offers convert for your catalog before any fixed fee.
  • Growing store, budget-conscious: ReConvert. The $4.99-$19.99 range buys the most capability per dollar, as long as you accept the tier climbs.
  • Established store, post-purchase is a serious channel: AfterSell for depth and support, or Zipify OCU if disciplined A/B testing is the priority. Compare OCU’s revenue-scaled bill against AfterSell’s flat tier at your volume - the crossover point differs per store.
  • You want one app for pre- and post-purchase funnels: Honeycomb or ReConvert, and check the view or order caps against your traffic first.

Whichever you pick: configure a downsell (shown when the first offer is declined), keep offers under roughly 40% of the original cart value, and check the analytics report net revenue after the app’s own fees.

The other half of AOV: before checkout

A post-purchase app only ever sees customers who already checked out. Everything upstream of that - the product page, the cart, the bundle offer - is storefront territory, and it’s where most AOV is actually won or lost.

That’s the part Fudge builds. Fudge is not a post-purchase app and doesn’t touch the checkout extension point. It’s an AI storefront editor that writes native theme code: cart cross-sells, bundle pages, PDP sections, and landing pages, all as Liquid in your own theme rather than a rendered widget. No monthly widget script on your PDP, and the code survives uninstall. The honest limitation cuts the other way: because Fudge works on the storefront, it can’t make one-click offers after payment - for that you need one of the six apps above.

The two layers stack cleanly. A cart cross-sell raises the order value before checkout; a post-purchase offer adds to it after payment. FAQ

What is a post-purchase upsell on Shopify?

It's a one-click offer shown between checkout and the thank-you page, using Shopify's post-purchase checkout extension. The customer has already paid, so accepting the offer charges the payment method on file without re-entering any details. Declining it costs you nothing - the original order is already complete.

Do post-purchase upsells hurt conversion rate?

No, and that's their defining advantage. The offer appears after payment is captured, so the original conversion is finished before the upsell exists. This is the opposite of pre-purchase popups, which sit in front of the buy button and can cost you the base sale.

Which is the best Shopify post-purchase upsell app?

As of August 2026, AfterSell (4.8 stars, 900 reviews, from $34.99/month) is our overall pick for dedicated post-purchase depth. ReConvert (4.8 stars, 2,798 reviews, from $4.99/month) is the best value. Zipify OCU is strongest if you plan to A/B test offers aggressively.

Why do some customers never see my post-purchase offer?

Shopify's platform rules exclude certain payment methods from the post-purchase page - orders paid with some wallets, instalment providers, and local payment methods skip straight to the thank-you page. This affects every app equally, so a portion of orders will never see an offer no matter which app you install.

Can I show more than one post-purchase offer?

Shopify allows a single post-purchase page per order, but apps can chain offers inside it - typically an upsell followed by a downsell if the first offer is declined. You cannot build an endless multi-page funnel the way old redirect-based platforms did.

Are revenue-share pricing models worth it?

They're good for testing and bad at scale. CartHook's 1% and ReSell's 5% mean you pay nothing when upsells fail, which makes the experiment free. But once upsell revenue is meaningful, a flat plan is almost always cheaper - do the crossover math at your volume before committing.

Do these apps slow my store down?

The post-purchase page itself is rendered by Shopify and is fast by construction. The speed cost comes from the other surfaces many of these apps install - product page widgets, cart offers, thank-you page scripts. If you only want the post-purchase placement, disable the storefront surfaces and keep the checkout-side offer.

Is Fudge a post-purchase upsell app?

No. Fudge builds the storefront side of AOV - cart cross-sells, bundle pages, and PDP sections - as native code in your theme, before the customer reaches checkout. It doesn't touch the post-purchase extension point, so it pairs with any app in this list rather than replacing one.
