The 3 June updates worth your time first

  1. Migrate off Shopify Scripts before June 30. This is the only item with a hard deadline, and it fails silently. Everything else can wait; this can’t.
  2. Watch Summer ‘26 Editions on June 17. 150+ features, and a few will be worth adopting in the next quarter.
  3. Run your first native A/B test. The highest-ROI habit in ecommerce just became free and built in.

1. Shopify Scripts deprecation: the June 30 deadline

What changed. Shopify Scripts - the Ruby-based checkout customizations that power custom discounts, shipping logic, and payment rules on many Plus stores - stop executing entirely on June 30, 2026. Editing and publishing were already disabled on April 15. There is no gradual phase-out, and Shopify has confirmed the date will not move again.

Why merchants care. This is dangerous because it’s quiet. Your store won’t throw an error. Your “Buy 2, get 1” line-item discount, your “free shipping over $X” rule, or your “hide pay-by-invoice at checkout” payment rule will simply stop applying - and the first you hear about it may be a support ticket or a margin leak you notice weeks later.

What to do this week. Functions aren’t “Scripts with new syntax.” They’re compiled WebAssembly modules that run inside Shopify’s core infrastructure, split across three APIs:

  1. Open Settings > Checkout > Scripts (or your Script Editor) and inventory every active Script.
  2. For each one, decide: rebuild as a Function, replace with a now-native feature, or retire it.

2. Shopify Summer ‘26 Editions: what to expect on June 17

Shopify runs two big Editions showcases a year, each bundling a hundred-plus shipped and upcoming features into one themed release. Summer ‘26 Editions streams on June 17. Based on what’s already rolling out in the changelog, here’s what we expect to headline it:

One caution we’d give any merchant: a lot of “Summer ‘26” roundups already circulating are quietly recycling Horizon themes, the POS v10 redesign, and Sidekick - those shipped in Summer ‘25 and Winter ‘26, not this event. We’ll only report what’s actually confirmed on June 17, in our end-of-month update.

3. Native A/B testing and Rollouts for themes and checkout

What changed (June 5). Shopify added Rollouts - a native way to schedule, gradually release, and A/B test changes to your theme, checkout, and customer-account configurations, found under Markets > Rollouts.

Why merchants care. You can now schedule a checkout change to publish at a specific time, gradually roll out to a percentage of visitors and watch for problems before going to 100%, run true A/B tests between two configurations without contaminating each other, and test localized content per market. Until now this meant a paid app or a risky “publish and pray.”

What to do. Pick one high-traffic page and run your first test this month: a hero headline, a checkout trust badge, or a shipping-threshold message. Keep it small and easy to roll back.

4. Unified POS and admin staff permissions

What changed (June 11). POS and admin staff permissions now live together under Settings > Users. Previously you managed your online team in one place and your retail staff in another.

Why merchants care. One roster, one set of roles, for your whole team across online and in-person - fewer duplicate-logic mistakes.

What to do. If you run retail, do a five-minute permissions audit. Consolidating often surfaces stale access - former seasonal staff, over-permissioned roles - worth cleaning up.

5. Multi-location pickup and mixed ship-and-pickup orders

What changed. Two related upgrades: multi-location pickup in POS (June 8) lets you create a pickup order for collection at any enabled location, not just the one you’re standing in; and ship-and-pickup on one order (in preview) lets a single order mix shipped items and in-store pickup items.

Why merchants care. This closes a long-standing gap for stores whose customers expect “ship the bulky thing, I’ll grab the rest in store.”

What to do. If you have more than one location, confirm which are pickup-enabled and that staff know how to ring a split order.

6. Multi-currency payouts expanded

What changed (June 13). Merchants in the US, Hong Kong, and Singapore can now receive payouts in multiple currencies rather than forcing everything back to one.

Why merchants care. For stores selling internationally, that means fewer forced conversions and cleaner reconciliation.

What to do. If you’re in-region and sell across currencies, review your payout settings with our multi-currency setup guide. You may be able to cut conversion friction immediately.

7. B2B: grouped catalog publishing and Net Terms

What changed. Two steps toward making bolt-on B2B apps unnecessary: grouped catalog publishing (June 8) lets you edit a catalog and save or discard all changes together, instead of piecemeal edits that risk a half-published price list; and native Net Terms with automated invoicing is rolling out, reducing reliance on third-party wholesale apps.

Why merchants care. It builds on Shopify’s April move bringing foundational B2B to all plans - more of the wholesale workflow is now native.

8. Shopify Collective expands to Australia

What changed (June 10). Shopify Collective - which lets retailers sell other Shopify brands’ products, and suppliers reach new retailers - is now available in Australia. Suppliers also now get shipping performance metrics and a “Verified Tracking” badge for consistent carrier tracking.

Why merchants care. AU merchants can expand their catalog without holding inventory; suppliers can earn a visible trust signal with potential partners.

What to do. AU merchants should evaluate Collective; suppliers should tighten tracking to earn the badge.

9. Agentic Storefronts: your catalog is now in AI answers

What’s happening. Shopify keeps syndicating eligible merchants’ catalogs into AI assistants - ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity - from a single Shopify Catalog, with no per-channel integration. For US stores, much of this is on by default.

Where it actually stands. AI is mostly a discovery channel right now, not a checkout channel. OpenAI quietly pulled in-chat Instant Checkout earlier this year, and the momentum has shifted toward AI surfacing your products while the purchase completes on your own store. Treat it as a new top-of-funnel traffic source: the stores that get cited are the ones whose product data is clean and complete.

What to do. Check which AI channels your catalog is published to and confirm your product data is accurate. Then treat “getting found by LLMs” as a 2026 SEO discipline. 10. The tariff reality check for importers

What’s happening. The US de minimis exemption (the old $800 duty-free threshold) remains suspended for commercial imports, and a global import surcharge is in effect. Every low-value import now needs full customs entry, classification, and duty payment.

Why merchants care. If your margins assume duty-free sub-$800 parcels, they’re out of date - this is the biggest operational cost change many merchants still haven’t priced in.

What to do. Re-run your landed-cost math, update pricing or sourcing, and set customer expectations on delivery times. Tariff rates are still evolving in 2026, so confirm current figures with a customs source before relying on a specific number.

Two through-lines define this month. First, Shopify is absorbing the app ecosystem into the core platform - A/B testing, B2B net terms, merchandising, checkout customization. Features that used to be paid add-ons are becoming native, and the Scripts-to-Functions migration is part of the same consolidation onto modern, faster infrastructure.

Second, discovery is moving into AI assistants, and Shopify is positioning every merchant’s catalog to be there by default. The stores that treat clean product data and structured markup as seriously as they once treated SEO will be the ones AI tools cite and send buyers to.
