Here are the Shopify new features March 2026 - covering Shopify AI updates, Shopify checkout updates, Shopify product updates, and developer changes. March is dominated by Editions Winter 2026, which Shopify is calling the “RenAIssance Edition.” It’s the largest Editions release since Shopify launched the format.
Editions Winter 2026: The RenAIssance Edition
Shopify Editions Winter 2026 shipped over 150 updates. The through-line is AI at every layer of the platform - merchant tools, storefront discovery, checkout, and developer infrastructure.
A few things that define this release:
The shift from reactive to proactive AI. Previous versions of Sidekick answered questions. The new Sidekick surfaces insights and suggestions on its own - flagging slow-moving inventory, spotting a checkout drop-off pattern, suggesting a campaign before you’d thought to run one.
Agentic commerce infrastructure. Shopify stores are now natively discoverable by AI shopping agents. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity to find a product, Shopify merchants show up. This is a fundamental change in how storefronts get found.
Sell on WordPress. Shopify’s checkout and payments are now embeddable into WordPress sites. Merchants with a WordPress presence can add Shopify’s checkout without migrating their site.
AI & Sidekick
Proactive Sidekick.
Sidekick now proactively surfaces recommendations based on store activity. You don’t need to prompt it. If a product is trending in a region, Sidekick may suggest a targeted campaign. If checkout abandonment spikes, it flags it with suggested fixes.
Tinker - AI workspace for storefront sections.
Tinker is a new sandboxed AI environment for building and editing Shopify storefront sections. You describe what you want, Tinker generates the section, and you can test it before committing to your live theme. No risk of breaking anything in production.
This is specifically useful for merchants who want to experiment with layouts, promotional sections, and seasonal content without involving a developer.
Agentic Storefronts
ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot can now browse and recommend from Shopify stores.
Shopify merchants are now discoverable through AI shopping assistants. When a user asks an AI agent “find me a good leather wallet under $80,” participating Shopify stores can surface their products directly in the response - including the ability to complete the purchase without visiting the store.
This connects to the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) that Google and Shopify co-developed and launched in January 2026. Editions Winter ‘26 is the merchant-facing implementation of that infrastructure.
POS & Retail
POS Terminal redesign.
The Shopify POS hardware terminal got a full UI redesign - cleaner layout, faster navigation, and improved readability for high-volume retail environments. The redesign also addresses common complaints about the previous checkout flow on the terminal.
Android Customer View.
Shopify POS now supports Android devices as customer-facing displays. Customers can see their cart, review items, and approve the total from a dedicated screen. Previously, customer view was limited to specific hardware configurations.
Improved POS search.
Product search in POS is faster and handles partial matches and typos better. In busy retail environments where staff are typing quickly, this reduces friction during checkout.
POS Hub.
A new unified dashboard for multi-location retailers. Staff and managers can see activity, inventory, and performance across all locations from a single view.
B2B
ACH payments for B2B.
B2B merchants can now accept ACH bank transfers as a payment method. ACH is common in US wholesale and B2B purchasing, and its absence was a friction point for merchants selling to businesses that prefer bank transfers over cards.
Subscriptions on POS.
Subscription products can now be sold through Shopify POS. Customers can sign up for a subscription at the register - useful for subscription boxes, membership programs, and repeat-purchase products.
Shop Minis
Product tagging in Shop Minis.
Merchants using Shop Minis (the in-app shopping experience) can now tag products in content. This brings social-commerce-style product discovery into the Shop ecosystem.
UGC in Shop Minis.
User-generated content - customer photos, reviews, and unboxing content - can now be surfaced in Shop Minis listings. Social proof at the point of discovery.
Developer Updates
API 2026-04 webhook changes.
The upcoming API version (2026-04) introduces changes to webhook payload structures. Developers should review the changelog before the version becomes required. Key areas affected include order and fulfillment webhooks.
